The Mobility Consumer Index (MCI)
- The Mobility Consumer Index (MCI) tracks the impact of COVID-19 on mobility and provides unique insights on the shift witnessed in personal mobility and car buying behaviour amidst the pandemic.
- Based on a global survey of more than 3,300 consumers in nine countries (China, Germany, India, Italy, Singapore, South Korea, Sweden, United Kingdom and the United States) during August 2020, the MCI offers a perspective around the changing travel patterns and preferences, centred on the rise of working from home, reduced time on entertainment & socializing, and increasingly digital behaviour. The index also offers insights around mobility choices and buying behaviours of a diverse set of consumer personas.
- As per EY analysis (Mobility Consumer Index Report, 2020)*, monthly per capita emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) fell globally across all three travel segments—work travel, social and household travel, and leisure and entertainment.
- Substantial reduction in emission levels was also noted; 56% for work travel, 58% for social and household travel, and 62% for leisure and entertainment.
